ULTRACET
Ultracet is an atypical opioid which is a centrally acting analgesic, used to treat or prevent pain for a short period of time (usually 5 days or less). It is a synthetic agent, unrelated to other opioids, and appears to have actions on the GABAergic, noradrenergic and serotonergic systems. Ultracet is available in both injectable (intravenous and/or intramuscular) and oral preparations. It is usually marketed as the hydrochloride salt (tramadol hydrochloride).
Prescription Ultracet can be taken either with food, or on an empty stomach. You may experience side effects such as constipation, dizziness, or drowsiness while using Ultracet. Tell your doctor if you develop yellowing of the skin or eyes, skin rash, itching, changes in mood or behavior, confusion, hallucinations, dark urine or pale stools, or unusual tiredness. Get immediate medical attention if you have difficulty breathing or swallowing, seizures, or swelling of face or mouth. Always store Ultracet in a cool dry location. If you miss a schedule Ultracet dose, do not try to make it up. Simply skip that dose and resume your usual schedule. If you donít notice an improvement in your symptoms, let your doctor know. If you have a reaction to acetaminophen or tramadol, your doctor may recommend that you not take Ultracet. Your doctor can also give you an customized dose or set up additional monitoring for you. It can be dangerous to take too much acetaminophen. You should also avoid sedatives, antihistamines, sleeping pills, and tranquilizers when taking Ultracet. The medicine can make you feel drowsy, and these will make the drowsiness worse. ![]() Seizures have been reported as a rare side effect of treatment with acetaminophen and tramadol.
